How to import a BMECat file to Pimics

BMECat has not been released for Dynamics 365 Business Central running as a service (SaaS). It is available just for on-premise installations.

In Pimics, you can easily import product data from BMECat files. During the import typically you need to have these settings or you can create it during the import:

  1. Mapping
    • in the current version there is no additional settings for mapping. But in one of the next it will be possible to define custom mappings between BMECat elements and fields in Business Central.
  2. Partner

Create BMECat mapping

To create a BMECat mapping please follow the create a mapping and select BMECat in type.

Import data from a file

  1. Choose the Search icon, enter Import from BMECat file, and then choose the related link.
  2. On the first screen
    1. Select your local BMECat file in File. The file will be uploaded to the server. The file can be XML or zip.
    2. Click on Next to go to the second screen.
  3. On the second screen
    1. The most of data has been read from the file. You can change it or keep it as it is in the file. Below is the most critical fields.
    2. Select Default Language Code, you should select one language from the file which should be overtake as the base descriptions, other languages will be imported into translations.
    3. Select File Language it can happen that the file doesn't define languages, in that case this field is shown as mandatory and you need to specify the language of the file.
    4. In the Reference Type field, select on of the following:
      • Partner if a supplier is already in the system. Select the partner in Reference No. field.
      • Create New Partner if it is a file from a new supplier. The partner will be created automatically.
    5. Click on Next to go to the third screen.
  4. On the third page
    1. Select your mapping for the file in Mapping Code field.
    2. In the Classification field, select a classification that you want to import.
      • By choosing the classification you can also be able to select what type of classification will be imported from the file. Right now we can import one or all.
    3. Click on Next to go to the final page.
  5. On the final page
    1. In the Process File field select one of the following:
      • No if you want to start the import later on.
      • Yes if you want to start the import immediately.
      • On background if you want to start import immediately and continue with your other work. The import will be scheduled and run on the background.
    2. Click on Finish to create the import, and also the partner, if selected, and run the import.
  6. After the process of the data finishes you can find the created import in Imports and all item in Vendor Items
