Cross Reference Management for Publications
Overview
Cross References are used to establish relationships between items (such as products or categories) and their related items or accessories. Each Cross Reference must be assigned a unique Cross Reference Code, and users can optionally provide a Cross Reference Description for internal purposes.
When adding Cross References to a publication, a distinct approach is required to ensure proper organization and visibility.
Creating a Cross Reference Publication
To manage Cross References effectively within the publication system, follow these steps:
1. Creating a New Publication Group
- A new Publication Group must be created for each set of Cross References.
- The Data Allocation Type for this group should be set to Reference, indicating that the group is specifically meant for Cross References.
2. Handling Multiple Cross Reference Codes
- If multiple Cross Reference Codes are involved and need to be listed separately in the publication, you must create a separate publication group for each code.
- This ensures each group is associated with a specific Cross Reference Code.
3. Setting Publication Rules
- Once a publication group has been created for each Cross Reference Code, a publication rule must be defined for each group.
- The publication rule should explicitly include the specific Cross Reference Code that the group will represent.
4. Cross Reference Code and Description Exclusion
- It’s important to note that neither the Cross Reference Code nor the Cross Reference Description will be included in the final publication. These are meant for internal use only.
Attaching Cross Reference Groups to Master Items or Categories
Once the individual publication groups have been created and properly configured with their respective rules, they need to be attached to the Master Item or Category publication groups. This process ensures that the cross-referenced items or accessories are correctly linked to the primary items or categories in the publication.
By structuring Cross Reference publication groups in this way, users maintain flexibility and clarity in managing relationships between items and their associated cross-referenced entities.
