Generate public links for SharePoint files

SharePoint itself does not allow public links for all files in a library. To publish files without limitations, we provide a service in Azure. Because this service consumes Azure resources, the cost is invoiced in advance, or the service can be installed in your Azure environment.

Configuration and prerequisites

  1. Setting up SharePoint integration
  2. Setting up Azure CDN and public links

First select the digital assets you want to publish online (pictures, documents, and so on), and then run Refresh Metadata, as shown below:

setup-cdn-5

This action updates all public links for the selected digital assets to reflect the new CDN settings. Wherever these new links are used online, Pimics Azure CDN is leveraged to provide a better customer experience.

  1. Search for Pictures using Alt+Q, and then select the related link.
  2. Select one or more pictures saved in that library.
  3. Run Refresh Metadata (under Actions > File & Repository > Refresh Metadata).
    Note

This action uses an external service, so Pimics must be allowed to connect to external services.

  4. After the function runs, all pictures should have a new link in the Public Link field.

Define conversions for channels

Using public links, Pimics can convert pictures to different formats. This lets you keep one original picture for all channels, while public links handle conversion when needed.

  1. Search for SharePoint Image Pipelines using Alt+Q, and then select the related link.
    Note

This action uses an external service, so Pimics must be allowed to connect to external services.

  2. Select New to create a configuration.
    1. Code is an identification code for the pipeline that is later used in the URL.
    2. Format is a target format such as .jpg, .png, or .webp.
    3. Max Width and Max Height define the final picture size.
  3. Save the configuration.
  4. Search for Pictures using Alt+Q, and then select the related link.
  5. Select a picture with a public link. If needed, follow Refresh public links
  6. Select Open Public Link.
  7. Append ?pipeline=<Code> to the URL to get the converted picture.
