Toggle Inheritance
Managing inheritance settings for a large number of products and categories can be time-consuming if done individually on each card. The Toggle Inheritance report allows you to bulk update inheritance settings across a filtered set of records, from the highest catalog levels down to individual items.
This tool is especially useful when setting up a new catalog structure or when you decide to change how certain data types (like pictures or features) are distributed across your product hierarchy.
To toggle inheritance in bulk
Select Search (Alt+Q), enter Catalog Setup, and choose the related link.
On the Actions menu, choose Toggle Inheritance.
In the Starting Level field, select the hierarchy level where you want to begin the update:
- Catalog Group
- Chapter
- Product Group
- Item Group
- Item
In the Filter field, enter a filter string or use the lookup to select specific records at the starting level.
If you want to apply the changes to all sub-levels below your selection, enable the Include Children toggle.
Specify the desired inheritance change for each data type:
- Select Yes to enable inheritance.
- Select No to disable inheritance.
- Leave as blank (space) to make no changes to that specific data type.
The following data types can be toggled:
- Class Inheritance Change: When set to Yes, it automatically manages related features and keywords.
- Keyword Inheritance Change
- Feature Inheritance Change
- Description Inheritance Change
- Picture Inheritance Change
- Document Inheritance Change
- Graphic Inheritance Change
- Media Inheritance Change
- CAD Drawing Inheritance Change
- Reference Inheritance Change
Choose OK to run the report and apply the changes.
Important
Disabling inheritance for a specific data type will remove all inherited data of that type from the affected records and their children. For example, if you disable feature inheritance, all inherited features and their values will be deleted from the items.
