Translations

In Pimics, you can translate information into any number of foreign languages. If a word is the same across languages, you only need to enter it once. When the data changes, Pimics alerts you that modified passages need to be translated. If you outsource translations, you can also export texts for translation or language review.

Set up languages for Pimics

Pimics allows you to translate descriptions and rich texts for enabled languages.

To enable languages for Pimics translations

  1. Choose the Search icon, enter Catalog Setup, and then choose the related link.
  2. Scroll down to Languages in Pimics. This section lists the languages that are allowed in Pimics.
  3. Add or delete a line as needed.
  4. Confirm the message Do you want to add language to catalog?

Translate item descriptions

For allowed languages, you can translate descriptions in master data such as product information, classification, and digital assets.

PRECONDITIONS

To translate item descriptions

  1. Choose the Search icon, enter Items (Product Information/Items), and then choose the related link.
  2. Open the Item Card where you want to translate the description.
  3. On the PIM ribbon tab, choose Translations.
  4. At the top of the Translation page, choose Edit List.
  5. Click the Item Description field and enter the translation for the available language.
  6. Clear the Activity field on the line and confirm the dialog.

Alternative steps:

Note: On most pages, the Translations area is attached directly to the page card.

  1. Open Card.
  2. Go to Translations FastTab.
  3. Select the line with the Language Code for the language into which you want to translate the description.
  4. Fill in the Item Description/Item Description 2 for the specific Language Code.
  5. Translated means the translation is complete. This checkbox is selected automatically.
  6. Activity means translation is under development. Tick this checkbox if the translation is not ready yet.

Translate rich texts

Rich text lets you describe master data in more detail. For enabled languages, these rich texts can also be translated.

PRECONDITIONS

Enabled languages for Pimics. See Languages in Pimics. Existing rich text with the description class Base for the item group. See Working with description texts on items & categories.

To translate rich texts in descriptions

  1. Choose the Search icon, enter Item Group list (Product Information/Item Group), and then choose the related link.
  2. Open the Item Group card that already contains a rich text.
  3. On the PIM ribbon tab, choose Descriptions.
  4. Select the line with the rich-text description class Base.
  5. On the ribbon, select Navigate > Translations.
  6. On the following page, you can see available languages, a preview of Base Language Description and Foreign Language Description.
  7. Select the line for the language into which you want to translate the text.
  8. On the Actions tab, select Edit Foreign Text.
  9. Fill the appropriate translation and close the rich text.
  10. Go to Actions and select Confirm Translations.
  11. After you confirm the action, the selected language is marked as translated.
