How to work with Variants

Variants The product data may contain variations such as colour, size or other attributes and their combinations. Each variant may contain product information such as description or Digital Assets. This data can be selected from a set of data assigned to the Product card.

Working with Variants

Open the variant card

  1. Choose the search icon ( Alt+Q ) and enter Items
  2. Select item or open Item Card
  3. Choose the search icon ( Alt+Q ) and enter Variants
  4. The page Item Variants is opened

Define your own variants

In this case, assume that you have an item that is fully configured and has all the required product data attached. On the variant item page there is one product variant per line

  1. Fill in the Code field - user code of the variant
  2. Fill in the Description field - define your own description of the variant
  3. The Variant No. field is automatically generated according to the No. series setting in Catalog Settings
  4. The Pictures Document ID field is automatically filled in after setting the main picture of the Variant
  5. The Channel field is automatically filled after assigning a Channel to the Variant
    1. On the ribbon tab and click on Channels button (in the Product Details)
    2. In the Code field, select the required channels
  6. Variant management allows you to block individual variants

Manage product data

Like Item, Variants can be expanded with product data. All data, which you want to set for variants, you can manage dirrectly on the page Item Variants. PIM RibbonTab contains all types of data that you can assign to variant. You can assign to an variant the data as Product Features, Translations, Pictures, Documents, Media, Graphics and CAD Drawings.

How to extend variants with additional fields

With the Product Feature it is possible to extend the variants with a new field that allows to enter more different combinations of variants On the Item Card, we will add Product Features with the Default Feature Type set to Variant. Such Features will be created in the feature list. After adding individual variant lines, new columns with variant value selections will automatically be added based on the settings of the Product Features with the Default Feature Type Variant.
